Minimail Terms of Service
Draft — pending legal review. These terms have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. Every
[PLACEHOLDER]must be filled in before they are final.
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
1. Agreement
These Terms govern your use of Minimail, the web email client at https://[DOMAIN] (the "Service"). The Service is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [ADDRESS], [COUNTRY], [COMPANY / VAT NUMBER] ("we", "us"). By connecting a mailbox to Minimail you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. The Service
Minimail is a keyboard-first interface for email accounts you already have: Gmail and Google Workspace, Outlook.com and Microsoft 365, and IMAP/SMTP mailboxes such as iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, Zoho, GMX and AOL. It reads, displays, searches, composes, sends, archives, moves, trashes and snoozes mail at your direction, through your provider's API or IMAP/SMTP.
Minimail is not an email provider. Your mail stays with your provider and remains subject to its terms. Minimail has no database: it does not keep a copy of your mail, and your sign-ins are stored, sealed, only on your device (see the Privacy Policy).
Minimail is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Microsoft, Apple, Yahoo or any other provider. Their names are trademarks of their owners.
3. Beta
The Service is in public beta. Features may change, break or be removed, and some providers may be limited. For example, signing in with Google may be limited while Google reviews Minimail's Gmail access; you can connect Gmail over IMAP with an app password instead. Keep your own backups as you normally would; your provider holds your mail.
4. Eligibility and your accounts
You must be at least 16 and able to form a binding contract. You may connect only mailboxes you are authorized to use. You are responsible for activity through Minimail on your device, for keeping that device secure, and for keeping your provider accounts and app passwords secure. You can remove an account, sign out of a device, or revoke Minimail's access at your provider at any time.
5. Your data
You keep all rights to your email and data. You give us a limited permission to access and process it solely to provide the Service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. Our use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We handle data from other providers under the same principles. We do not use your mail for advertising, sell it, or use it to train AI models.
6. Price
- The Service is free during the public beta. No payment details are collected.
- After the beta we plan to offer paid plans (currently planned at $8/month or $80/year, plus applicable taxes). People who join during the beta will be offered a founding price of $60/year, kept for as long as they stay subscribed.
- Nothing is charged automatically. Before billing starts we will publish updated Terms, name our payment provider, and give at least [30] days' notice. You will need to choose a plan to keep using the Service after the beta.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- send spam, phishing or malware;
- break the law, or violate your provider's terms (for example the Gmail Program Policies);
- probe, scan or attack the Service, use it to reach private networks, or circumvent its security or rate limits;
- reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows;
- resell the Service without our written permission;
- access mailboxes you aren't authorized to use.
We may suspend access from devices or networks that break these rules.
8. Intellectual property and feedback
The Service, including its software, design and brand, belongs to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it. If you send us feedback, we may use it without any obligation to you.
9. Availability and changes
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". It depends on third parties, including your mail provider and our hosting provider. We may change or discontinue features. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give at least [30] days' notice.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law:
- we do not guarantee that the Service will be error-free or uninterrupted;
- we are not liable for loss of email or data held by your provider, for email sent at your direction, or for indirect or consequential damages;
- our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and [AMOUNT].
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.
11. Ending
You can stop using Minimail at any time: remove your accounts or sign out of your devices, and revoke access at your provider if you like. We may suspend or end access for material breach of these Terms. Sections 5, 8, 10 and 13 survive.
12. Changes to these Terms
We will give at least [15] days' notice of material changes in the app or on this page. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the changes.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [COUNTRY]. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring claims in your local courts. For business users, the courts of [CITY] have exclusive jurisdiction. [Lawyer: confirm ADR/ODR wording.]
